Vacation Bible School is coming up July 11-15. The theme this year is The Life of Moses. We are in need of many volunteers to make this week possible. The format this year will be the same as last year. We are looking for teachers who will sign up to teach only one night. Also there will be class leaders, who will supervise the students and help with crafts, but not teach. Please
click-here to sign up if you are willing to help in some way.
There is a sheet at the message center with all the names of the kids on the current roster. Please fill in a size next to your child’s name for their t-shirt. If you know that your children will not be attending, please cross their name off of this same sheet. Along with that, if you know for sure of any visitors that will be joining us that week, feel free to add them to the back sheet and include a grade and t-shirt size. Please do that today if possible, see Kristen Rokey or Bro. Bob or Sis. Ashley Schieler with any questions.
The kitchen committee recently replaced the towels and dish cloths in the kitchen. The old towels and dish cloths will be out of the front kitchen counter after church today for anyone who would like to take some. Take as many as you like, first come first serve.
We are updating our Silver Lining mailing list. The current list is out at the information center. If you no longer wish to receive the Silver Lining via mail, you can cross your name off the list. If you are not currently receiving it by mail and would like it, please put your name on the sheet next to the mailing list.
The next Silver Lining reader-submitted article is set for September 2022. The topic is: “In a world that can seem so overwhelming, how can we maintain a home (or personal sphere of influence) that is a peaceful refuge (John 17:15-17)?”
Please submit your contribution (length = 600 words or less) on this topic to
features@acsilverlining.org by July 15, 2022. For questions or assistance, you may email that same address.
We will have our all church potluck next Sunday, June 5th at 4:30 at the Fellowship Hall.
We rejoice with Bro. Keith and Sis. Perri Grimm as they were blessed with a baby girl, Valor Grace on May 12th.
We firmly believe that our congregational singing is a vital part of our worship service. When we had our small group discussions last fall about our church, the need to revitalize our song worship bubbled up among several groups. Some healthy suggestions were given and they have been discussed among our minister team and song leader team. We would like to implement some changes for the summer when our Sunday School is with us all day to see how it impacts our song worship. Here are a few things that were discussed:
- Start our church service at 9:45 AM in the morning, 11:55 in the afternoon, and 7:15 on Wednesdays. That’s not when singing starts, that’s when worship service starts!
- Have a few leaders standing up front before the pulpit service on Sundays to help get the singing started.
- Start our worship services with selections from the combined hymnal, followed by a selection from the Zion’s Harp before the pulpit service. Predominantly use the Zion’s Harp during the pulpit service unless inspired otherwise.
- Announce reminders about the start of the worship service and have the singing playing over the speaker system throughout the church building.
- Strongly encourage anyone who is able to fill in the front of the church. Often the first 8 to 10 benches are open. It makes it a little more difficult for a speaker and it will really enhance the singing if we have fewer empty benches up front.
- Encourage everyone to vacate the dining room by 11:50 if possible. Often those serving lunch are unable to start sweeping the dining room until well after the service has started due to the crowd in the lunchroom. Out of consideration for them, let’s try to be out of the dining room by 11:50 and heading into the sanctuary by 11:55.
Our fellowship time is one of the unique traditions of our church and is just as vital as our song worship and pulpit ministry. We would never expect anyone to cut short a spiritual and encouraging conversation out of guilt to rush into the song worship service. However, with a little more mindfulness, most of us can be ready to worship our God and Savior at the designated times. I am confident that we will all feel a difference when we are singing together with our children with a true heart of worship. It’s already beautiful. I’m excited to see how much more inspiring it will feel with a full sanctuary of blended voices.
