There will be an all church walk through shower for Bro. Tate Taufer and Sis. Whitney Streitmatter this Tuesday evening, August 9th, from 7-8 pm at the Gathering Room. Please bring $5-10 and a recipe. Contact Sis. Lisa Rieke with any questions.

Bro. Darren Plattner from our Champaign congregation plans to be with us this Wednesday evening for a topical Bible study starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Fellowship Hall. His topic will be “Why I Believe”. While there are certainly many “reasons to believe“, he will just talk about a few that have been the most compelling for him, being an analytical person for which faith does not necessarily come easy. Everyone is invited and welcome to attend.

Everyone is invited to a Benefit Breakfast to help Sis. Christy Wiegand with Medical Expenses.
Where: Allentown Union Hall
When: Saturday, August 13th
Time: 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Dine in or Carry Out Options
The Allentown Union Hall folks have a meeting on Tuesday and would like to have a very good idea of how many people are coming from Goodfield church.
**If you plan to attend, please text Jill Wagner at 309-267-2109 with your name and the number of people that plan to attend before Tuesday.**
This will help them plan the food / help for Aug. 13 breakfast to support Christy. Thank you!

One of the items that came to light in our Vision effort was a desire to provide additional support for young people in our church after they graduate from high school. Because of this we plan to start an Adult Sunday School class this school year. The class is for all young single people (both members and friends) from high school graduates up to age 25. It will be held on all Sunday mornings while regular Sunday school is in session. The class will focus on verse-by-verse teaching through various books of the Bible and will include small group discussions. Brothers Erik Wiegand, and Darrell Stoller have agreed to teach this class. If you have any questions, please see either of those brothers, or Brothers Jeff Grimm or Jeff Wiegand.

The Sunday School remodel project received very strong support (almost 90%). Thanks to each of you for your participation.

NATIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Elder Conference - The Elders met on Wednesday and Thursday, and the General Brotherhood Conference followed on Friday in Bluffton, IN.

Here is a brief summary of the minister meeting and General Conference. Thursday evening minister meeting focused on the health of the ministry team and pulpit. We recognize the need to be united in Christ against the adversary of our souls and are thankful for the instruction given throughout the Word and especially in Ephesians 4 to edify, forgive, and trust one another, ultimately using the gifts God gives to each one to His glory. There were two panel discussions, one centered on our relationships and the other on the
Elder’s Teaching Resource (ETR) which has been developed in the past 3 years to assist our ministry in “rightly dividing the word of truth”.

The General Conference theme was “Evangelism and Discipleship – laboring together with God.”

·        Seedtime and Harvest (Elder Bro. Lynn Fiechter) – The scripture likens the seed to being the Word of God, but sometimes we may be the seed, or perhaps the caretaker of the seed that is sown. We must expect God to be present in whatever part we have in sharing the gospel with those around us.

·        Sowing the Seed (Elder Bro. Marvin Dotterer) – Importance of preparing the soil so that the seed will germinate and begin to grow, and our part in sowing the seed of God’s Word that all may hear.

·        Sprouting – coming to life (Elder Bro. Rod Bajema) – In our fields and gardens certain conditions aid in germination and early growth. Similarly, as we share the gospel message certain experiences may trigger germination of the seeds that have been planted. We were encouraged to ask questions to give people an opportunity to share their story.

·        Growth – living under the discipline of the Lord (Elder Bro. Trent Meiss) – Who do we want to be as a spiritual “grown up”? God sees who we can become as we strive to be more like Jesus.

·        Pruning (Elder Bro. Wayne Hartzler) – Trees and shrubs are pruned for form, but fruit trees are pruned to bear more fruit. The Lord prunes us because of His love for us and desire that we bear fruit. Being pruned takes humility. Sin must be cut off at the heart level.

·        Bearing Fruit (Elder Bro. Tom Klotzle) – Bearing fruit requires that we abide in the vine (John 15), which results from adoration of our Lord and Saviour, on-going communication with God in prayer, and meditation upon His word.

·        Enduring time, drought, storms (Elder Bro. Jeff Streitmatter) – As Elder of the Sarasota FL church, Bro. Jeff relayed spiritual analogies of preparing for and sheltering from hurricanes, noting that it isn’t really over when we say that the storm is over.

·        Harvest (Elder Bro. Kent Heimer) – Harvest is a time of separation of the grain from the chaff. Jesus states in Luke 10 that “the harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few ...”. Will we be among “the few”?

·        The Brotherhood Conference recordings will be posted on AC Central in the near future. All are encouraged to take time to listen and consider our part in the “Seedtime and Harvest”.

The following links may be used to access the conference video:

·        Thursday Evening

·        Friday – Part 1

·        Friday – Part 2

We currently assemble Midwest Health Kits twice a year during Family Hymn Sings. Please see Sis. Carrie Blunier if you are interested or have questions. We want to thank all of you who were able to participate in our small group discussions this past Wednesday and on October 15th. We are compiling all of the notes and sorting them to identify common themes or thoughts. These summaries will be handed off to a building exploration committee and will be used to guide their discussions around the scope, feasibility, and desires of the church family. We do want to reiterate some points to keep us all on the same page. 1. This discussion began with the trustees identifying several building upgrades that need to be done in the near future. As good stewards, we do not want to spend any money on our facility without exploring all options. 2. We want the church’s input on any large decisions. We felt that these discussions gave us an opportunity to really hear the church in a way that was healthier than an anonymous survey. 3. We also recognize that some decisions will be made that will disappoint some. We will never all agree on the scope of the project, colors or styles of carpet, etc. If we decide to do nothing with our facility, that will disappoint some. We just ask for grace and patience as individuals and committees work through decisions. 4. The ministry team was involved in helping lead the small group discussions but that will largely end our involvement in this process. Our role is the preaching of God’s Word, nurturing of souls, and guiding the spiritual growth of the congregation. We should not let those efforts be negatively impacted by a building project. We will help in identifying the initial exploration committee and then we will be fairly hands off at that point other than helping with some communication. 5. We recognize that there was some angst around the discussion of church planting. It is an uncomfortable topic. For clarity, we are not exploring a church plant at this time. Our Apostolic Christian Church, and many other churches, has recognized that building bigger and bigger churches is not following the pattern of the early church. There are challenges when a church gets too big, just as there are challenges when a church is too small. It is healthiest when the conversations around a healthy church plant begin 5 to 10 years before it becomes necessary. It may never become necessary in Goodfield. However, the only way it will never become a need, is if we become stagnant or shrink. We don’t want that. NATIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS: HarvestCall’s next large-scale Rebuilding Ministry project will be in Acadia Parish, Louisiana. Acadia Parish in southern Louisiana experienced excessive rainfall in 2025, causing significant damage to houses, some still waiting for help after Hurricanes Laura and Delta in 2020.
